I was going through my video collection and the disc for Office Space caught my eye. This movie was released back in 1999 and in my opinion, I have to say that it is one of my favorite movies of all time. Ben Livingston's character in the movie, Peter Gibbons, was the ultimate example of a "slacker" that made it straight to senior management. My hero! What a great work ethic he had. Take a look at this conversation with the waitress he's dating, Joanna (played by Jennifer Aniston):
Joanna: So, where do you work, Peter?
Peter Gibbons: Initech.
Joanna: In... yeah, what do you do there?
Peter Gibbons: I sit in a cubicle and I update bank software for the 2000 switch.
Joanna: What's that?
Peter Gibbons: Well see, they wrote all this bank software, and, uh, to save space, they used two digits for the date instead of four. So, like, 98 instead of 1998? Uh, so I go through these thousands of lines of code and, uh... it doesn't really matter. I uh, I don't like my job, and, uh, I don't think I'm gonna go anymore.
Joanna: You're just not gonna go?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Joanna: Won't you get fired?
Peter Gibbons: I don't know, but I really don't like it, and, uh, I'm not gonna go.
Joanna: So you're gonna quit?
Peter Gibbons: Nuh-uh. Not really. Uh... I'm just gonna stop going.
Joanna: When did you decide all that?
Peter Gibbons: About an hour ago.
Joanna: Oh, really? About an hour ago... so you're gonna get another job?
Peter Gibbons: I don't think I'd like another job.
Joanna: Well, what are you going to do about money and bills and...
Peter Gibbons: You know, I've never really liked paying bills. I don't think I'm gonna do that, either.
Joanna: Well, so what do you wanna do?
Peter Gibbons: I wanna take you out to dinner, and then I wanna go back to my apartment and watch 'Kung Fu'. Do you ever watch 'Kung Fu'?
Joanna: I love 'Kung Fu'.
Peter Gibbons: Channel 39.
Joanna: Totally.
Peter Gibbons: You should come over and watch 'Kung Fu' tonight.
Joanna: Ok. Ok. Can we order lunch first? Ok.
And the best scene from the movie has to be when the guys went about smashing the office machine....set to gangsta rap even!....priceless! Hmmm, where is that photocopier that always jams my paper....

Funny Ads during Superbowl XLI
We all know that Superbowl commercials are just as entertaining (if not more entertaining) as the game itself. Two of my favorites this year are from Blockbuster and Bud Light. Now if only commercials from this part of the world would have the same humor quotient...
Bud Light's Rock Paper Scissors...
Blockbuster's Mouse...

NFL Draft Choices...
The NFL draft is about 2 months away and sports sites are abuzz with all sorts mock drafts and analyses. The first 3 teams to pick are as follows: Houston, New Orleans, and Tennessee.
With the recent contract extension for QB David Carr in Houston, I think it is obvious that they will be taking Reggie Bush with their 1st pick. New Orleans will have to choose between QBs Matt Leinart from USC, or Vince Young (see picture on the right) from Texas. Reports say that New Orleans will pick Leinart over Young. I would agree...except for one thing. My take is that since Norm Chow (ex-offensive coordinator at USC) is now with Tennessee, it would make sense for them to try to trade up to pick Leinart. After all, Norm would be extremely familiar with Matt Leinart, having coached him at USC, so why would he take Vince Young at #3 instead?
I say, look out for Tennessee to trade up and watch for the USC alum to reunite with his college offensive coordinator! What do you think?

i don't understand...
I had an unfortunate experience with food poisoning yesterday afternoon. After what I thought was a delicious plate of beef hor fun over lunch, I started getting queasy 4 hours later and saw the room spinning. So off to the doctor I went.
Now this is the crazy part. The doctor figures that it is food poisoning and proceeds to prescribe medication for stomach ache, nausea, charcoal pills and diahorrea. And the nurse instructs me that all medication has to be taken after food. AFTER FOOD!!!
What part of food poisoning do they not understand? Here I am, feeling sick to my stomach, puking out my lunch, and I have to eat some more food so I can take the medication to make me feel better!!! Classic....

Happy and Sad...
The start of this week was both happy...and sad for me. I was elated that my beloved Hawkeyes, who began their 2005 Football season last Saturday, steam-rolled Ball State 56-0. A shut out too! I know some folks out there will say "It's Ball State and they suspended 13 starters because of NCAA violations". But it was a great confidence booster for the Hawkeye running game, scoring 5 rushing TDs (halfway to last season's total of 10) in this game. I was happy!...
Then I got sad. My favorite NFL receiver, Jerry Rice, announced his retirement on Monday. As a 49er fan, I've seen what Rice could do and his combination with quarterback Joe Montana and Steve Young in the past was surreal. Each TD was highlight reel material. His burst of speed to pull away from defenders after a catch was a joy to behold, poety in motion. And I feel sad that we'll never see another score from Rice ever again. All I can say is "No.80, thanks for all the memories!". There'll never be another one like you....ever.....I need a beer.
